Three simple steps to better credit

Building credit with a secured card is straightforward — and we're with you every step of the way.

1

Make Your Deposit

Provide a refundable security deposit of $200–$5,000. This deposit becomes your credit limit — so a $500 deposit means a $500 credit limit.

Your deposit is 100% refundable
2

Use Responsibly

Make small purchases each month and pay your balance in full and on time. Keep utilization below 30% of your limit for the best score impact.

Upgrade Your Card

After 12 months of on-time payments, you may qualify to upgrade to an unsecured Najem Financial card. Your deposit is refunded and your credit line may increase.

Typical credit score improvement journey

With consistent on-time payments and low utilization using a Najem Financial Secured Card. Individual results vary.

Habits that build great credit

Follow these four principles consistently and you'll see meaningful improvement in your credit score.

Pay On Time

Payment history is 35% of your FICO score — the single biggest factor. Set up autopay for at least the minimum to never miss a due date.

Keep Utilization Below 30%

Credit utilization is 30% of your score. On a $500 limit, keep your balance under $150. Ideally, aim for below 10% for the best impact.

Don't Apply for Too Many Cards

Each hard inquiry can temporarily lower your score by a few points. Space out applications by at least 6 months when building credit.

Monitor Your Score Monthly

Use your free FICO score in the Najem Financial app. Monitoring lets you catch errors and see which actions are having the most impact.

Secured card questions answered

A secured card requires a refundable security deposit that becomes your credit limit. An unsecured card does not require a deposit — the bank extends credit based on your creditworthiness. Secured cards are ideal for those with no credit history or poor credit who want to build or rebuild their score.
Yes — your deposit is fully refundable. When you upgrade to an unsecured card (typically after 12 months of on-time payments) or close your account with a $0 balance, your deposit will be returned to you, usually within 1–2 billing cycles.
Most customers begin seeing score improvements within 3–6 months of responsible use. The exact timeline depends on your starting score, utilization rate, payment history, and other factors in your credit file. Consistency is key — each on-time payment adds positive history.
Checking if you pre-qualify uses a soft inquiry, which does not affect your score. Submitting a full application triggers a hard inquiry, which may temporarily lower your score by a few points. This typically recovers within a few months of responsible card use.
Yes — you can increase your credit limit by adding to your security deposit at any time, up to the $5,000 maximum. A higher deposit means a higher credit limit, which can also improve your utilization ratio and positively impact your score.
