Who qualifies?
Our student checking account is open to young people aged 16–24. There are two paths in:
Students
- Age 16 to 24 years old
- Currently enrolled in a high school, college, university, or vocational program
- Proof of enrollment may be requested at opening
- Account converts automatically upon graduation or age 24

Young Adults
- Age 16 to 24 years old
- Not currently enrolled in any educational institution
- Working, apprenticing, or just starting out in life
- All the same features and zero-fee benefits apply equally

Our student and young adult checking account is available to anyone aged 16 to 24. Applicants aged 16 or 17 must open the account jointly with a parent or legal guardian — both parties must be present at a branch with valid photo ID and proof of the minor's date of birth.
Applicants aged 18 to 24 can open an account online or in a branch entirely on their own. No co-signer or parent is required.
Absolutely. Switching is straightforward. Once your new account is open, you can use our Switch Kit to update your direct deposits, recurring payments, and autopay. We'll provide you with your new routing and account numbers, and most direct deposit switches take effect within 1–2 pay cycles.
We recommend keeping your old account open for 30–60 days during the transition to ensure no payments are missed. Once everything is set up, simply close the old account at your previous bank.
When you reach age 24 or graduate from your educational programme, your student account is automatically upgraded to our Advantage Banking account. You'll receive a notification at least 60 days before the change takes effect.
Your account number, debit card, and all linked services remain exactly the same. Advantage Banking offers additional features and higher limits. A monthly maintenance fee may apply, but it can be waived with a qualifying direct deposit or minimum daily balance — we'll walk you through your options.
For joint accounts (ages 16–17), the parent or guardian is a full co-owner of the account and has complete access to all account information, including balances, transaction history, and statements. This is a legal requirement for minors and is designed for their protection.
Once the account holder turns 18, the joint account converts to a sole-name individual account. At that point, the parent or guardian automatically loses access to account information unless the account holder explicitly adds them back as an authorised user.
For accounts held by anyone aged 16–24 who qualifies as a student or young adult, the monthly maintenance fee is automatically waived — no action required on your part. Simply maintain your age eligibility and, if applicable, your student status.
If you're unsure whether your account qualifies, you can check your account details in the mobile app or contact our support team. Fee waivers are applied at the end of each statement cycle, so you'll never be charged unexpectedly.
Yes, mobile deposit limits apply to all accounts for security reasons. For new student accounts, the standard limit is $2,500 per day and $5,000 per 30-day rolling period. These limits may be increased over time as your account history and relationship with Najem Financial grows.
Deposits made via mobile before 8:00 PM local time on business days are typically credited to your account the same business day. Deposits made after the cutoff or on weekends will be credited the next business day.
